World Thinking Day
Each year on February 22, girls participate in activities, games, and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries.
World Thinking day offers Girl Scouts an opportunity to learn more about the world around them. Girls are encouraged to design activities that increase cultural awareness and emphasize the positive similarities between U.S. Girl Scouts and their sisters throughout the world. Service projects, international events, and research on world culture, environment, or geography are just a few of the many ways Girl Guides and Girl Scouts celebrate the day. Check out the Suggested Activities section of the World Thinking Day Guide 2007 for more ideas on how to integrate the Girl Scout Leadership Development Program into a World Thinking Day project that enables girls to Discover, Connect, and Take Action.
This year, the Czech Republic, Lebanon, Mexico, Rwanda, and Sri Lanka were chosen to represent the five regions of World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) — Europe, Arab region, Western Hemisphere, Africa, and Asia/Pacific. World Thinking Day not only gives girls a chance to celebrate international friendships, but it is also a reminder that Girl Scouts of the USA is part of a global community—one of 144 countries with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts organizations. See the Resources section of the World Thinking Day Guide 2007 for information about each country. The full Resource Guide is available for download below.
